Company Profile
Lead Guitar
Company Overview
Lead Guitar is a rapidly growing, national not-for-profit that provides free in-school music classes and professional development, partnering with schools in Atlanta/Athens, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Tucson, our headquarters city, to serve over 5,000 students annually. We employ 30+ teaching artists and administrators. By sharing the joy of music-making with thousands of kids who would otherwise go without, Lead Guitar delivers “tangibly better student outcomes in terms of dropout rates, behavioral issues and academic achievement” (US News & World Report).
Lead Guitar provides in-school music education that inspires students to engage with their school community in new ways and prompts students to examine and expand their personal narratives to activate a growth-mindset. Our mission is to offer a rigorous music program to public schools that lack access to critical resources and opportunities, including arts education. We are believers in the power of learning and making music for music’s sake.
Lead Guitar was incorporated in 2007 and has grown to serve over 5,000 students per year with direct, daily instruction and circa 50,000 additional students and community members through outreach performances and livestreams. With our FY24 budget projected to be $ 1,108,000, our primary support comes from foundations and events. We are governed by a Board of Directors of 13 individuals that have diverse experience in business, not-for-profit, education, and music industries.
